Why You Should Follow Your heart (and its wild journey)

When I was traveling through Tirol, Austria last year with some other blogging friends, I described to them how I instantly felt Raleigh was my home the minute I first arrived in 2004.

I couldn’t explain it. I just looked at the pine trees through the window of my airport transfer and was overwhelmed with this rushing feeling of I am home.

They listened in awe and I could see that restless spirit within them as they asked,

“Do you think that can happen to everyone? Do you think that one day you can find that special place just for you? I feel like I’m going to be endlessly looking.”

“Yes I do. I think everyone has a soul home. Some are born there, and others, for whatever reason have to go on a journey to find it. If you are open to it, and willing to make the sacrifices for it, you’ll find it and you’ll just KNOW when you do.”

For the first time in my life, I feel I have roots. I literally feel as if my legs have become tree trunks and they refuse to budge from this place.

I’ve never felt like this before and I wonder if other people feel the same way.

Is that why some people never have a desire to travel? Is it because their tree trunk legs won’t let them?

My life in Raleigh gives me a deep satisfying love that enables me to feel very present in my everyday moments.

Simple things like shopping at Trader Joes or Costco puts me in a joyful state. I walk around humming with this feeling of love surrounding me and I whisper, I love this so much. Like I looooove living here so much.

Who would be filled up by grocery shopping like that?

Today, I share more about why you should follow your heart and the wild journey it takes you on - including some fascinating research conducted on the heart's intuition!

I'd love to hear your stories and questions in the comments on the post.

Why Remember the Alamo, San Antonio Texas (& its Yellow Rose)

Don't forget to visit the Alamo in San Antonio Texas. My Dad has wanted to visit ever since I can remember so it was wonderful to take him there.

It's well worth a visit, especially staying at the Emily Morgan Hotel - the Yellow Rose of Texas - and the official Alamo Hotel.

QUESTION - what are you reading this month?

Is there a better way to end the day in San Diego? Whilst my kids were happy jumping off the wall along the boardwalk onto the sand and using it as a balance beam, I snapped this family walking along the waters edge at Pacific Beach taking in the show.

Welcome to the Largest Home in America: Biltmore Estate, North Carolina

When I told my Mum we were taking a slight detour on our road trip to visit the Biltmore House, she thought it was going to be another Southern home like we'd visited in Charleston and Savannah.

Mum doesn't research places before we visit, she likes to be surprised.

Imagine her surprise when she saw this "Southern home"

This is my third time visiting the Biltmore and I love it. It's always on our NC list when we have visitors.

It's the largest home in the country and has the most visited winery in the US!

I loved taking my parents and this time staying at the Inn at Biltmore. It was their favorite hotel stay on our road trip.

The story of the Vanderbilt family is also warming and joyful.

Who loves shopping? Ladies? Gents, be honest! :)

We snuck in a spot of shopping in Huntington Beach which is always fun with our girls, and HB brings back memories of our time living on the Gold Coast in Australia with all the Aussie surf brands like Billabong, Quiksilver and Rip Curl.

There's some cool streetside markets here, and markets along the beach. Plus Main Street and surrounding streets have some nice boutique stores, plus the new Pacific City shopping complex is an easy walk from Main Street and has some nice shopping too.

And one other fun thing for our kids was the Havaianas store where you can make your own flip flops - they enjoyed getting creative with that in designing the color of the sole, strap, and jewelry to go on it.

Who loves strawberries?

Did you know that California supplies 80% of the U.S. strawberry supply? And many of them from Southern California. We headed 30 minutes inland from Huntington Beach to Irvine and did a one hour Tanaka Farms Strawberry Tour. 2018 is the 20th year of Tanaka running Strawberry Tours to learn all about the farms history and their farming methods, and of course we got to learn how to pick the best strawberries which are responsibly grown and safe to eat right off the vine which was fun for the kids! And we got to fill a container to take home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This was a great hands on learning experience for our kids about responsible farming methods, and as you know we currently homeschool our kids so practical experiences like this are always invaluable.
